A clean chimney is a safe chimney. Every time you burn a fire, smoke leaves behind soot and creosote on the inside of your flue. Over time that buildup narrows the flue, hurts your draft, and can catch fire. A blocked or damaged chimney can also push carbon monoxide back into your home instead of venting it outside.
Chimney Sweep Master Chicago provides dust-free chimney sweeping and inspections for homeowners across Chicago's North and Northwest Side. Whether you burn wood every weekend or only light a gas fireplace on holidays, a yearly sweep and inspection keeps your fireplace working the way it should and helps you catch small problems before they become expensive ones.
Many Chicago homes are older, and their chimneys have seen decades of freeze-and-thaw winters. Cracked flue tiles, loose bricks, missing caps, and rusted dampers are common. Our goal on every visit is simple: leave your fireplace clean, tell you honestly what we found, and help you decide what, if anything, needs attention.

How the Process Works
- 1
Send a work request
Use the Work Request button or call 312-957-6896. Tell us a little about your fireplace and any issues you've noticed, and we'll reach out to schedule a time.
- 2
We protect your home
When we arrive, we lay down drop cloths and set up our equipment so soot and dust stay inside the chimney, not on your floors and furniture.
- 3
Sweep and clean
We clean the firebox, smoke chamber and flue, removing soot, creosote and any debris that has collected inside.
- 4
Inspect
With the chimney clean, we can see its condition clearly. We check the damper, flue, smoke chamber, cap and accessible masonry for damage or safety concerns.
- 5
Review together
Before we leave, we walk you through what we found, answer your questions, and explain any repairs or upgrades worth considering. There's never pressure to do more than you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should my chimney be swept?
The National Fire Protection Association recommends that chimneys, fireplaces and vents be inspected once a year and cleaned as needed. If you burn wood often, an annual sweep is a good rule of thumb.
Do I need an inspection if I have a gas fireplace?
Yes. Gas fireplaces don't create creosote the way wood does, but flues can still become blocked by nests or debris, and log sets can collect soot. An inspection makes sure everything is venting safely.
Will sweeping make a mess in my house?
No. Our sweeping service is dust-free. We protect the area around your fireplace and keep the soot contained while we work.
What signs mean my chimney needs attention?
Smoke coming into the room, a strong campfire smell, black flakes falling into the firebox, poor draft, or animals in the chimney are all signs it's time for a sweep and inspection.
What happens if you find a problem?
We'll show you what we found and explain your options. You decide whether to move forward with a repair. We never do extra work without your approval.
What Customers Say on Google
★★★★★
“Koltin came by for an inspection and cleaning of my wood burning fireplace. The previous owner had set it up with ceramic logs over a log lighter gas pipe which had gotten covered in soot. Koltin did a great job cleaning it up and let me know the issues with it being set up that way. Will be getting rid of the ceramic logs and switching over to wood burning for now. Overall quick response, great communication and service.”
